The filming for Disney’s Lilo & Stitch 2 has officially begun in Hawaii, with the first set images circulating online.
Filming is currently underway at Hilton Hawaiian Village and the lagoon, where Maia Kealoha was spotted on set alongside Stitch and Angel.
The sequel also introduces Angel, a pink genetic experiment created by Dr. Jumba Jookiba. In the franchise, she is romantically linked to Stitch, and the two call each other “boojiboo.” Angel’s signature ability is her siren song, which can turn good or reformed experiments and people evil. Stitch, however, is unaffected by her powers.
Lilo & Stitch follows the story of “the bond formed between a lonely human girl named Lilo and a dog-like alien named Stitch, who is engineered to be a force of destruction. Pursuing aliens, social workers, and the idea of the bond of family figure into the proceedings.”
Chris Sanders will return to direct and write the film, as well as voice Stitch. Instead of following the story of the 2005 animated sequel Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch, the new movie will feature an original story. It is also expected to show more of Jumba’s experiments and the trouble they cause in Hawaii.
