The first look at Lily-Rose Depp has been spotted on the set of Robert Eggers’ Werwulf in Bourne Wood near Farnham, England.
In the images, Depp looks unrecognizable in her new look for Eggers’ film. She appears in a harsh, medieval-inspired costume that matches the gritty, historical tone of the project.

Depp wears a long, thick brown overcoat made from coarse, textured material, hinting at poverty or a harsh rural life.

In Werwulf, Depp plays the wife of Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s character, who transforms into a werewolf. Her role is expected to be central to the emotional storyline, as she witnesses her husband’s unraveling—the man who becomes the werewolf.

The film is being shot on 35mm Super 35 in a 1.37:1 Academy ratio, which gives it a classic cinematic texture with natural grain and rich color. The nearly square 1.37:1 frame creates a tight, confined visual style, similar to Eggers’ The Lighthouse, which used an even narrower aspect ratio. Werwulf is expected to have a claustrophobic, atmospheric look that fits Eggers’ signature style.
According to World of Reel, Werwulf is described as a gothic horror epic set in 13th-century England with time-period-accurate dialogue. Eggers has said it is the darkest film he has ever written “by far.” The film will reportedly feature period-authentic language and, as expected from Eggers, an obsessive level of historical detail.
Most recently, Taylor-Johnson was spotted on the set at Dartmoor National Park, filming with a bloodied chest and long hair.
The film is directed by Eggers, who previously worked on The Witch and Nosferatu. He co-wrote the script with Sjón.
