Marvel May Scrap Blade’s Solo Film in Favor of Midnight Sons

Marvel’s Blade reboot is reportedly no longer moving forward as planned, with Blade now expected to debut in Midnight Sons and potentially appear in Avengers: Secret Wars.

Marvel’s Blade movie is reportedly no longer moving forward at Marvel Studios, and the studio’s plans have now completely changed. Instead of appearing first in a solo movie, Blade is now expected to make his MCU debut in the Midnight Sons project.

According to insider Daniel Richtman, Blade will reportedly have a major role in the Midnight Sons movie, which is now in pre-production. Marvel is also trying to bring Blade into Avengers: Secret Wars.

While Blade is rumored to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars, the bigger question remains which actor Marvel Studios plans to use. Mahershala Ali has officially been connected to Blade since 2019, but years of delays and behind-the-scenes problems surrounding the solo movie have complicated the situation.

Recently, Jeff Sneider revealed on The Hot Mic that “He will not be introduced in a solo movie.” Sneider added, “He’ll be introduced in Midnight Sons.”

Marvel Studios may now face a difficult choice after Wesley Snipes’ successful return as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor’s appearance alongside Ryan Reynolds received huge reactions from audiences and reignited excitement for his version of the character.

In Marvel Comics, the Midnight Sons are a supernatural-themed superhero team. They first appeared in Ghost Rider Vol. 3 #28 (1992). The team deals with mystical threats — including demons, vampires, and occult forces — and features main members such as Ghost Rider, Blade, Doctor Strange, Morbius, Werewolf by Night, Hellstrom, Jennifer Kale, and Man-Thing. The plots often feature intense battles against powerful entities — including Lilith, Mephisto, and Zarathos.

Marvel’s Supernatural MCU Problem Could Finally Be Solved in Secret Wars

Marvel’s Blade reboot is reportedly no longer moving forward as planned, with Blade now expected to debut in Midnight Sons and potentially appear in Avengers: Secret Wars.

Marvel Studios currently has several unfinished supernatural storylines, and Blade’s tease in Eternals is one of the biggest examples. The MCU introduced Ali’s Blade through an off-screen voice cameo alongside Dane Whitman, but fans are still waiting to see the character properly enter the franchise. The same situation applies to Moon Knight, whose first season ended by teasing much larger adventures for Marc Spector and Jake Lockley.

Since Eternals failed to meet Marvel Studios’ expectations, characters like Dane Whitman have yet to properly return to the MCU. Blade’s post-credits setup with Whitman remains unresolved years later. Unlike Eternals, Ali’s Blade does not suffer from the same mixed reception, but the reboot itself has struggled through endless delays and production setbacks. Marvel could use Secret Wars to finally make Ali’s Blade the official long-term version of the character and avoid confusion after Snipes’ fan-favorite comeback.
