Marvel Studios is reportedly working to make Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine interact in the MCU. They are expected to return in Avengers: Secret Wars.
In the September Cosmic Circus Discord Q&A with Alex Perez—it was revealed that Marvel Studios is making significant efforts to ensure the interaction between Maguire’s Peter Parker and Jackman’s Wolverine happens, along with other legacy character moments. The creators aim for this interaction to be impactful—similar to the memorable sequences featuring the Resistance in Deadpool and Wolverine. The goal is to avoid throwaway sequences that lack depth—ensuring that each interaction adds value to the overall narrative, just like the impactful scenes in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Will Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom be recast after Secret Wars?
It is also confirmed that Robert Downey Jr.‘s Doctor Doom may be recast after Secret Wars since the Earth from which his character originates isn’t from Earth-616. The story outline for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars is complete, and the team is refining the details that connect the two outlines.
Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards is expected to have a significant role, comparable to Rocket Raccoon in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame—a key face but not a core member like the main Avengers. Doomsday may feature smaller groupings of characters, similar to previous films. Potential interactions include Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Doctor Doom (Downey Jr.), as well as extended scenes between Wolverine (Jackman) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). A humorous dynamic between Deadpool and Thor is also anticipated. Additionally, the possibility of a Council of Reeds, featuring various iterations of Reed Richards, is being discussed.
The Avengers will prepare for an impending threat, though they are unaware of what it specifically entails. There’s speculation about whether Doomsday will end with the creation of Battleworld during a significant incursion. The involvement of the Multiverse Masters of Evil is uncertain, but they may replace previously planned villains like Immortus and Rama-Tut. The story will draw from the comics Time Runs Out, Secret Wars, Doomsday, and Avengers: Forever.
When Will the Multiverse Saga End in the MCU?
Marvel Studios plans to conclude the Multiverse Saga in 2027 with Secret Wars. It will serve as a soft reboot for the MCU, and there will be only two Avengers movies, not three.
The plot of Avengers: Doomsday follows Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, who isn’t truly evil; he believes he is trying to save the multiverse from incursions. In his twisted logic, the only way for the multiverse to survive is to unify all universes in one place—Battleworld—under his rule. He sees this as the sole path to ensuring survival for everyone.
Filming for the two ‘Avengers’ movies will begin in London in the second quarter of 2025. Stephen McFeely will pen the script. The Russo Brothers will also produce the two films via their AGBO banner, which is clearly outside the norm for Marvel, as they typically don’t work with outside producers, preferring to keep the team in-house.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to be released on May 1, 2026, and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ will be released on May 7, 2027.
