Marvel Studios reportedly had talks with Ryan Gosling about playing Nova.
Daniel RPK on Patreon disclosed that Marvel Studios offered Ryan Gosling various roles, one of them being Nova. Confirming our previous report, Gosling is set to play an undisclosed role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Who is Nova in Marvel Comics?
In Marvel Comics, Nova usually refers to Richard Rider, a human who joins the Nova Corps—an intergalactic police force. Debuting in “Nova” #1 (1976), Rider inherits superhuman strength, flight, and energy projection. He often features in cosmic storylines alongside characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy, facing threats such as Thanos. Another Nova is Sam Alexander, a teenager with similar powers.
Recently, Marvel Studios launched ‘Marvel Spotlight,’ inspired by Marvel Comics, to focus on character-driven stories set at the street level. The first installment of ‘Marvel Spotlight’ will be the Disney+ series ‘Echo,’ and potential future projects may include Ghost Rider, Nova, Marvel Zombies, Sentry, Man-Thing, Ten Rings, Blade, Wonder Man, Punisher, White Tiger, and Daughters of Liberty.
In 2022, when asked by MTV about the number of superhero roles he turned down, Gosling paused and stated, “It doesn’t matter.” Confirming he declined several roles, he added, “I wasn’t right for them. I’d love to do it, but what’s the one?”
Marvel’s ‘Nova’ project will be a live-action Disney+ series, with an official announcement expected soon.
