Marvel Studios has planned to reset the MCU following the events of Avengers: Secret Wars. It is reported to be a “soft reboot” post-Secret Wars.

According to Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus), Avengers: Secret Wars will reset the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the new Earth-616 will merge elements from multiple universes (828, 1610, etc.) into a single “prime” timeline. The “soft reboot” will create a reality where the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four have always existed, as if they’d been there from the start.

Marvel Studios is pulling heavily from Jonathan Hickman’s Time Runs Out storyline and the 2015 Secret Wars. Expect incursions and multiversal collapse to play major roles.

There is big news for Avengers fans that the classic Avengers (like Iron Man and Captain America) will likely be recast after Secret Wars. As of now, Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) is one character confirmed to remain. Some “dead” heroes and villains may return due to the reset changing past events.

Although Doctor Doom is a main threat, Kang is not completely off the table for the future, despite setbacks. Post-reset, villains like Red Skull, Zemo, Strucker, and Viper could all return. Also, Kingpin will face off against Spider-Man in the future (though rights issues complicate movie appearances).

NYC may see a gang/turf war against Kingpin after Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 and the Punisher special. The Defenders (Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist) are planned to be reintroduced — they’ve gone into hiding.

Doctor Strange and Clea will play a major role in fixing incursions leading into Secret Wars. Time flows differently in the Dark Dimension, meaning Strange has experienced much more than Earth has.

Avengers: Doomsday is currently halfway through production. Directed by the Russo brothers from a screenplay by their longtime collaborator Stephen McFeely, the film is now being co-written by McFeely and Michael Waldron, the creator and head writer of the Loki series.

The official cast members of the film include Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Danny Ramirez as Falcon, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Letitia Wright as Black Panther, Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, and Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost. Ian McKellen as Magneto, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Cumming as Nightcrawler, and Channing Tatum as Gambit. Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (Human Torch), Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (The Thing), and Lewis Pullman as Bob Reynolds/Sentry.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theaters and IMAX across the United States on December 18, 2026, and Secret Wars is scheduled for release on December 17, 2027.
