Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, says he wants a Disney+ series for Ghost Rider.
In a recent interview with Collider following the release of Agatha All Along, Winderbaum revealed his interest in doing a Ghost Rider series based on the Danny Ketch (Earth-616’s Ghost Rider) era.
Winderbaum believes there is a strong audience for Ghost Rider, and he personally favors the Danny Ketch version of the character.
Winderbaum said, “I would wanna do the Danny Ketch era of Ghost Rider.” Winderbaum added, “I think there are a lot of people who would be here for some Ghost Rider.”
It was reported that the upcoming Ghost Rider project won’t be an origin story. Instead, it will focus on the challenges Ghost Rider faces while exploring the mystical aspects of Marvel Comics.
Back in June 2022, Ryan Gosling expressed interest in playing Ghost Rider in the MCU. At San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige responded — “If Ryan wants to be Ghost Rider… Gosling’s unbelievable. I’d love to find a place for him in the MCU.”
The Ghost Rider film series consists of two movies. The first film — Ghost Rider (2007) — stars Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze, a stunt motorcyclist who transforms into the fiery antihero Ghost Rider after making a pact with the devil. With worldwide box office earnings of around $228 million, the movie follows Blaze as he battles supernatural forces to protect the innocent. The sequel — Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2012) — also starring Cage, sees Blaze hiding in Eastern Europe and coming to the aid of a young boy threatened by demonic possession. This installment grossed $132 million worldwide. Additionally, Ghost Rider made appearances in the Marvel TV show — Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4 — where the character Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider (Gabriel Luna) was introduced.
