Marvel‘s ‘Fantastic Four‘ is scheduled to begin filming on January 15, 2024. There’s exciting news about the film: a female Silver Surfer will be featured as the herald of Galactus.
Who is Playing Silver Surfer in the ‘Fantastic Four’ Reboot?
In the latest episode of The Hot Mic with Jeff Sneider and John Rocha, it was claimed that in Marvel’s ‘Fantastic Four’ MCU reboot, the character Silver Surfer will be portrayed as a woman.
“And yes,” Sneider said, “you can expect to see a female Silver Surfer.”
Previously, there were a lot of rumors that Marvel was planning to ‘gender-swap’ the iconic comic book character in an upcoming project. As per our analysis, Earth-829 had a female herald for Galactus a decade ago named Juno, aka Silver Surfer, who is also a Marvel character. While there is currently no official confirmation or database entry for a female Silver Surfer in Marvel, it remains a possibility that a new portrayal of the character could be cast.
In Fantastic Four, Galactus is confirmed as the main villain, and Antonio Banderas was offered the role a few months ago, but now Javier Bardem is reportedly being eyed. In Marvel Comics, Galactus is a powerful cosmic character known for consuming planets to survive. He’s not a traditional villain but a force of nature, often appearing in stories involving characters like the Fantastic Four.
Pedro Pascal has signed to play the role of Reed Richards, also known as Mr. Fantastic. The rumored cast includes Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Jake Gyllenhaal as Mister Fantastic, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the Thing. However, no contracts for the film have been signed yet.
The working title for the film is reportedly ‘Blue Moon.’ Director Matt Shakman is currently in pre-production on ‘Fantastic Four’ at Pinewood Studios in England.
According to Marvel President Kevin Feige, the Fantastic Four film will not have an origin story. He said (via THR), “A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?” Feige added, “We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”
The film is produced by Feige, Grant Curtis, and Nick Pepin. ‘Fantastic Four’ hits theaters on May 2, 2025.
