Marvel Studios has surprisingly revealed the origin of the X-Men in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is now playing in theaters. The X-Men reboot movie is close to beginning filming, and auditions have been taking place since May.
According to Deadline, Samara Weaving has been cast as Emma Frost in the X-Men movie. Emma Frost is one of Marvel’s most powerful telepathic mutants. Introduced in the 1980s, she began as an X-Men villain before eventually becoming one of the team’s most important members. In live-action, she was portrayed by January Jones in X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
The reported cast of Marvel Studios’ X-Men movie currently includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Weaving as Emma Frost, Cailee Spaeny as Rogue (rumored), Charles Melton as Beast (rumored), Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister (rumored), and Tramell Tillman as William Metzger.
According to a scooper, Drew Starkey is reportedly being eyed to play Scott Summers (Cyclops) in the MCU. Meanwhile, Tom Pelphrey is reportedly one of the contenders to play Professor Xavier.
In a recent interview with Variety, Obsession star Inde Navarrette said she met with X-Men director Jake Schreier and would love to play Mystique in the MCU.
Navarrette said, “I thought what Jake brought to Thunderbolts was what I used to love about Marvel. It was character-driven, and the whole time I just couldn’t stop gushing about how much I appreciated what he did with Marvel.”
Marvel boss Kevin Feige says the X-Men will be the core of the next MCU saga. He says acquiring the X-Men rights was about much more than just bringing Wolverine into the MCU. While Wolverine is an iconic character, Feige says the X-Men universe extends far beyond him. Marvel is actively working toward establishing a new era centered on the X-Men.
Feige said, “Fundamentally, the X-Men will be at its core. Acquiring the X-Men rights isn’t just about, for example, Wolverine, who is an outstanding character, and we were able to team him up with Deadpool, which is great. But the X-Men are far more than just Wolverine, far more than the original team. Fundamentally, it’s a universe, a multi-stage saga. Much of that is what we’re working towards.”
The film will be directed by Jake Schreier from a script written by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo. It will focus on a coming-of-age story and follow a younger team that grows over time.
Marvel Studios is also reportedly planning to deliver a more colorful, fun, and action-packed X-Men movie under the direction of Schreier. The goal is to capture the spirit of X-Men ’97 while moving away from the darker tone of the Fox-era films.
Marvel Studios’ upcoming film slate includes Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026, followed by Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027. The studio also has three untitled Marvel films scheduled for July 28, 2028, May 4, 2029, and July 13, 2029, while Black Panther 3, Ghost Rider, and X-Men are currently awaiting release dates.
