There is a lot more to expand on with Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey in the MCU. Jean Grey’s first appearance was in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, although her backstory hasn’t been revealed in the film, and the upcoming X-Men reboot movie will mainly focus on Jean, as confirmed by the director.
According to director Jake Schreier, Sink’s Jean Grey will be the main character in Marvel’s X-Men reboot. The film will follow Jean Grey’s story as she becomes part of the X-Men. Schreier described Jean as a “founding member of the X-Men.”
Schreier said, “[She is a] founding member of the X-Men and we will follow her story.”
According to recent plot rumors, X-Men is expected to focus on Sink’s Jean Grey and Kit Connor’s Scott Summers against the backdrop of Mr. Sinister’s obsession with them. The plot is said to be inspired by a comic storyline in which Adam Driver‘s Sinister reveals that he had been manipulating Scott since childhood, after Scott was taken to an orphanage secretly controlled by Sinister.
X-Men Reboot Will Explore Untold Stories From the Comics
Speaking to Good Morning America, Schreier says the X-Men movie will feature many elements that have never been explored on the big screen.
He has also been looking at different X-Men comic book storylines for inspiration, specifically mentioning Chris Claremont’s iconic run and Jonathan Hickman’s newer stories.
He said, “Digging back into those comics like the Chris Claremont run and the newer Jonathan Hickman stuff. There are so many stories that are still untold.”
Schreier says X-Men will take inspiration from Chris Claremont’s comic run: “I’ve just been digging into so many of the old comics and the entire Claremont run, and just going through stuff and really trying to think about what can we do well that feels new and feels different, and that hasn’t been done well before? Obviously, there’s such an incredible cinematic tradition of these comics, but what can we do? And how can we put our own spin on what that is?”
According to Schreier, “The core idea of what ‘X-Men’ is involves complexity. It’s an incredible opportunity with super interesting characters and [much] internal conflict. These characters are wrestling with their identity and place in the world—that’s inherently interesting and complex material.”
He added, “To be able to explore all of the ideas that are inherent to that rich source material, but also at the scale inherent to the source material, that’s like a very rare and fortunate opportunity. That’s very exciting.”

Directed by Schreier from a script written by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo. It will focus on a coming-of-age story and follow a younger team that grows over time.
The X-Men movie will hit theaters on May 5, 2028.
