Melissa Barrera (In the Heights) has joined the cast of the untitled James Wan and Simu Liu series for Peacock. The show has not yet been titled and is described as an espionage techno-thriller.
What is the Plot of the Show?
The show is set five minutes into the future—when first-generation American intelligence analyst Alexander Hale (Liu) realizes that his brain has been hacked—giving the perpetrators access to everything he sees and hears. Caught between his shadowy agency and the unknown hackers, he must maintain a performance 24/7 to flush out who is responsible and prove where his allegiance lies.
The series also stars Sinclair Daniel (The Other Black Girl), Brian d’Arcy James (Spotlight), Mark O’Brien (City on a Hill), and Kathleen Chalfant (Wit).
Barrera will play Michelle, a deceptive character who keeps everyone guessing; Daniel will play Parker, an intelligence officer who gets swept up into a new world that she must figure out quickly; James will play John Moira, a boss and mentor who is not afraid to make tough decisions; O’Brien will play Cobb, an ambitious intelligence agent; and Chalfant will play St. George, a quiet leader focused on the long game.
The show was created by Thomas Brandon (Legacies), who serves as the writer and executive producer, alongside co-showrunner and executive producer Jennifer Yale (See, Outlander). James Wan (The Conjuring Universe, M3GAN), Michael Clear (Archive 81, M3GAN), and Rob Hackett (Archive 81, I Know What You Did Last Summer) are also executive producers for Atomic Monster, with Simu Liu serving as an executive producer. Mark Winemaker and Jet Wilkinson will executive produce, with Wilkinson directing the first two episodes. UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio behind the show.
The release date for the techno-thriller is to be announced (TBA).
