Music composer Michael Giacchino has a great vision for his upcoming Marvel project, ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps,’ as he scores the film’s music. According to Giacchino, director Matt Shakman is bringing something “very fresh, very fun, very different” to the table.
In a recent interview with Nerd Reactor’s John Nguyen at SDCC 2024, Giacchino spoke about his score for ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ and the test footage shown. Giacchino said it will be a “challenge” to differentiate the score for the Marvel movie from the music he composed for Pixar’s The Incredibles.
Giacchino said, “We’re talking about family, we’re talking about friends, we’re about ‘what would you do to protect those people?’ This idea of an optimistic universe, I like this idea. I want to push forward with that [in the score]”
Giacchino says that Shakman is bringing a touch of optimism back to this piece of entertainment.
He said, “What Matt Shakman is bringing to the table is very fresh, very fun, very different…I think it’s a chance for us to return to a bit of optimism in this bit of entertainment.”
Directed by Shakman from the original script penned by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer, which has undergone a rewrite by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. In the film, Pedro Pascal plays Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Ralph Ineson as Galactus. Julia Garner is set to portray a female Silver Surfer, with Paul Walter Hauser and John Malkovich in undisclosed roles. Additionally, characters yet to be cast include Mole Man and H.E.R.B.I.E.
Filming has officially begun in London, and we have shared some set images featuring a 1960s style.
The film is produced by Feige, Grant Curtis, and Nick Pepin. The film will hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
