James Gunn has revealed a new look at Tom King’s animated Mister Miracle series and confirmed the voice cast for Mister Miracle and Big Barda.
On X, Gunn announced that Josh Hutcherson will voice Mister Miracle, while Mackenzie Davis will voice Big Barda. He also shared an exclusive image from the series, writing, “Welcoming Josh Hutcherson as Mister Miracle and Mackenzie Davis as Big Barda in Tom King’s forthcoming animated DCU series from DC Studios and WB Animation.” See it below.

The image also appears to tease Darkseid, who is expected to serve as the series’ main antagonist.

Here are the plot details for the Mister Miracle animated series:
“DCU’s Mister Miracle follows Scott Free, the world’s greatest escape artist, known to the world as Mister Miracle, whose perfect life with his warrior wife, Big Barda, falls apart when their two home worlds—Apokolips and New Genesis—go to war and Scott’s cruel adoptive father, Darkseid, appears to have captured the ultimate weapon, the Anti-Life Equation, which would give him total dominance over the universe.
As the mountains of bodies on both sides grow ever higher, only Mister Miracle can stop the slaughter and restore peace. But the terrible power of the Anti-Life Equation may already be at work in his own mind, warping his reality, exposing his long-buried pain, and shattering the fragile happiness he’s found with the woman he loves.”
Tom King will serve as showrunner and lead the eight-episode adult animated series, adapting King’s 12-issue Eisner Award-winning Mister Miracle comic. DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran will executive produce alongside King. Developed by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios.
In a recent interview with Collider, Peter Safran revealed that Mister Miracle is targeting a potential 2028 release, with eight episodes planned for its first season.
“We haven’t actually announced a date for it. We’re very advanced on it. I mean, we’ve seen animatics of the whole season. But I think we’ve always thought of it as ’28,” Safran said.
He also indicated that the episodes would run approximately 30 minutes each. “Yeah. I think that’s what we ended up with,” he added, offering a clearer picture of the first season’s format while the exact release date remains unannounced.
