The first trailer for ‘Mothers’ Instinct,’ starring Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway, has been revealed by StudiocanalUK. The film is about the friendship of two 1960s housewives that rapidly deteriorates after a tragedy.
Directed by Benoît Delhomme from a screenplay by Sarah Conradt. It’s a remake of the 2018 French film of the same name by Olivier Masset-Depasse, which was based on Barbara Abel’s 2012 novel “Behind the Hatred.” Watch the trailer below.
Starring Academy Award winners Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway, Mothers’ Instinct is an unnerving psychological thriller about two best friends and neighbors, Alice and Céline, whose perfect lives in ‘60s suburbia are shattered by a tragic accident involving one of their children. Marking the directorial debut of acclaimed cinematographer Benoit Delhomme, we follow Alice and Céline as their familial bonds are gradually undermined by guilt and paranoia and a gripping battle of wills develops, revealing the darker side of maternal love.

What is the Plot of Mothers’ Instinct?
Set in the early ‘60s, Mothers’ Instinct follows best friends and neighbors Alice (Chastain) and Celine (Hathaway), who live an idyllic traditional lifestyle with manicured lawns, successful husbands, and sons of the same age. Life’s perfect harmony is suddenly shattered after a tragic accident. Guilt, suspicion, and paranoia combine to unravel their sisterly bond, and a psychological battle of wills begins as the maternal instinct reveals its darker side.
Hathaway and Chastain, along with Chastain’s partner Kelly Carmichael, will produce under their Freckle Films banner. Hathaway recently starred in Apple TV+’s “WeCrashed” and James Gray’s “Armageddon Time.” Chastain, after her Academy Award win for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” starred in “The Forgiven,” “George & Tammy,” and Netflix’s “The Good Nurse.”

The film’s rights are acquired by Neon. The film is also produced by Paul Nelson (known for “Under My Skin” and “Pod Generation”) at Mosaic, and Jacques-Henri Bronckart (involved in “Duelles” and “The Nun”). Anton’s Founder and CEO, Sébastien Raybaud, oversees the project, along with financier John Zois, President of Production, who negotiated the deal with CAA. CAA Media Finance arranged the film’s financing and represented the project’s domestic rights, along with Anton. Neon’s Jeff Deutchman, EVP Acquisitions & Production, negotiated the deal, alongside Anton’s President of International Production and Distribution, Cecile Gaget, and CAA Media Finance. Anton, having financed the film from development through packaging after optioning the original film and book, will also handle all foreign rights.
