New behind-the-scenes images of Hulk from Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day have been revealed following the film’s theatrical release, where it has grossed nearly $1 billion during its opening weekend.
In the newly shared images, a gray practical Hulk model was used on set, with the CGI added later during post-production. Tom Holland can also be seen on set alongside Hulk. Check them out below.
Hulk’s role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day:
SPOILERS: In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Mark Ruffalo‘s Bruce Banner plays an important role in helping Peter Parker control his new mutations. Peter learns about an siRNA inhibitor device that Bruce uses to suppress the Hulk. Inspired by Banner’s work, Peter creates his own inhibitor to limit his Spider-Man powers and begins building another device to suppress the telepath’s abilities.
Later in the film, Jean Grey controls Hulk, using him as a weapon during an attack on the Department of Damage Control (DODC). Spider-Man is forced to battle the mind-controlled Hulk before successfully stopping Jean Grey with the completed inhibitors. Hulk is eventually freed from her control after Jean is defeated.
Speaking to The Movie Podcast, director Destin Daniel Cretton revealed that Hulk’s new design in Spider-Man: Brand New Day was inspired by Todd McFarlane’s iconic comic book artwork.
Cretton said, “Todd McFarlane and that cover in particular were a big inspiration for the design of the Hulk that you’ll see in this movie.”
In a recent interview with Collider, Cretton described Hulk’s scenes in Spider-Man: Brand New Day as “big, explosive, and really exciting.”
Cretton said, “The scenes with Bruce & Hulk are going to be big, explosive, really exciting… I think you’ll also be surprised at the intimacy of it and the reflection that Hulk has on the journey that Peter is on.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has grossed $927 million worldwide during its opening weekend, including $355 million domestically and $573 million internationally. After missing an initial IMAX release, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now officially coming to IMAX on August 7. Tickets go on sale tomorrow.
