The new concept art for Lewis Pullman‘s Sentry/The Void in Marvel’s Thunderbolts* has been revealed by John Staub, Senior Illustrator at Marvel Studios.
On Instagram, Staub shared comic-inspired concept images of Pullman’s Sentry/The Void. He revealed that the concept team created various visual interpretations of The Void to maintain comic accuracy while staying true to the tone and story of the film. Many of the designs pay homage to The Void’s appearance in Marvel comics, while adapting the look for a cinematic and grounded style.
In the images below, you can see that the Void’s design reflects the character’s psychological complexity and role in the plot.
Staub wrote, “Some explorations on The Void for the film Thunderbolts*, aka The New Avengers. We explored different possibilities that gave nods to the comic and tried to find the right look that was in line with the story being told.”
The film is directed by Jake Schreier and stars Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Pullman as Sentry, and Geraldine Viswanathan as Mel.
Here’s the synopsis for Thunderbolts*:
“In Thunderbolts*, Marvel Studios assembles an unconventional team of antiheroes — Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker. After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap — set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine — these disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. Will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart — or find redemption and unite as something much more — before it’s too late?”
Most recently, Marvel revealed the VOD and DVD release dates for Thunderbolts*. The film will be available on digital platforms starting July 1, 2025, and on DVD, 4K Ultra HD, and Blu-ray beginning July 29, 2025.
Thunderbolts* was released in the United States on May 2, 2025, as the final film of Phase Five of the MCU. The film has grossed $380.7 million at the worldwide box office.
