The first look at set footage from the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie has leaked online, showing the filming of a major scene in Wellington, New Zealand.
The footage was shared by Instagram users @tonyolsenfilm and @josh.and.pine, who secretly captured some scenes. It features Bo Bragason as Zelda, wearing a blue outfit seemingly inspired by Breath of the Wild, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, dressed in a classic green outfit.
Filming began on November 4, 2025, in New Zealand, and is expected to wrap by April 2026. Directed by Wes Ball—known for the Maze Runner trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes—the film is based on a screenplay by Derek Connolly and T. S. Nowlin.
According to the synopsis, the live-action adaptation of the video game franchise The Legend of Zelda follows Link, a young warrior destined to protect the magical kingdom of Hyrule from the forces of darkness. The land is under threat from Ganon, a ruthless warlord seeking the Triforce—an ancient relic said to grant limitless power. To stop him, Link must embark on a perilous journey, battling monstrous creatures, exploring treacherous dungeons, and solving intricate puzzles to uncover sacred artifacts that can aid him in his quest.

Produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, representative director and fellow of Nintendo, and Avi Arad, former chief creative officer of Marvel Entertainment. The film is a co-production between Nintendo and Arad Productions.
According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, The Legend of Zelda live-action film is reportedly planned to be a trilogy—major roles are being signed for three films spanning six years.
The Legend of Zelda is set to hit theaters on May 7, 2027, distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing.
