A new look at Mike Faist and Zendaya in Luca Guadagnino’s ‘Challengers‘ has been exclusively revealed by Games Radar (Total Film). The film hits theaters on September 15, 2023, by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. See the image below.
“We kind of went to summer camp,” Zendaya reveals in the upcoming Total Film magazine issue (out on Thursday, August 17). In an interview before the actors’ strike, Zendaya said, “It was an acting/tennis summer camp. You wake up really early. Everybody’s like, ‘OK, let’s stretch together.’ We stretch, we play PE games…” O’Connor interjects: “Eat eggs, eat chicken, and eat broccoli…” Zendaya added, “Broccoli! And work out, and play tennis, and rehearse all day,” Zendaya continues. “It was a dream in that respect, you get paid to do what you would want to do anyway.”
Luca Guadagnino is directing the film from a screenplay by Justin Kuritzkes. The film also stars Josh O’Connor, Scottie DiGiacomo, Faith Fay, Cornel Bradford, Jake Jensen, Keanu Ham, Christine Dye, A.J. Lister, Carlyne Fournier, Joe Curtin, Emelia Camille Harewood, Sid Jarvis, Charles Massey, Sam Xu, Connor Murray, and Cameen M Copeland. The film is rated R in the US by the MPAA for language, sexual content, and graphic nudity.
What is the Plot of Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers?
Tashi, a former tennis player turned coach, has transformed her husband from a mediocre player into a world-famous grand slam champion. To jolt him out of his recent losing streak, she makes him play a challenger event — close to the lowest level of the tournament on the pro tour. Tensions soon run high when he finds himself standing across the net from the once-promising, now burnt-out Patrick, his former best friend, and Tashi’s former boyfriend.
Produced by Luca Guadagnino, Rachel O’Connor, Amy Pascal, and Zendaya. Challengers hit theaters on April 26, 2024, by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
