The new plot details for the upcoming Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter movie starring Ryan Gosling have been revealed. The film reportedly follows a 15-year-old boy on a mission with his uncle (Gosling) as they’re being pursued by a duo of villains.
Here are the plot details for Star Wars: Starfighter:
Set five years after the events of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, a Jedi (Gosling) trains his 15-year-old nephew (Flynn Gray) as his Padawan. They’re on a mission while being pursued by two villains — one male, one female. The Padawan’s mother also plays an important role in the story, and there’s another major female character as well.

Most recently, Hollywood insider The Hot Mic’s John Rocha revealed that the plot of Star Wars: Starfighter is about “the main kid being Force-sensitive. His mom, played by Amy Adams, appears to be a Jedi. Gosling’s character is helping his nephew escape two villains who are chasing him across the stars, while also carrying out a mission given to him by Adams.”
From Lucasfilm, Star Wars: Starfighter is described as “an all-new standalone adventure” and “an entirely original story set in a period of time never before explored in Star Wars.”
The cast of Star Wars: Starfighter includes Gosling as the titular Starfighter, Gray as his young charge, Adams as his character’s mother, Matt Smith and Mia Goth as villains, along with Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, and Daniel Ings.

During the first day of production, Levy said, “I feel a profound sense of excitement and honor as we begin production on Star Wars: Starfighter.” He added, “From the day Kathy Kennedy called me up, inviting me to develop an original adventure in this incredible Star Wars galaxy, this experience has been a dream come true — creatively and personally.”
He continued, “Star Wars shaped my sense of what story can do — how characters and cinematic moments can live with us forever. To join this storytelling galaxy with such brilliant collaborators, both onscreen and off, is the thrill of a lifetime.”
Directed by Levy from a screenplay by Jonathan Tropper, the film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Levy, with Gosling, Dan Levine, Mary McLaglen, and Josh McLaglen serving as executive producers.
Star Wars: Starfighter is scheduled to be released in theaters in the United States on May 28, 2027, by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
