Marvel Studios removed the original post-credits scene from Deadpool & Wolverine. The scene originally featured Robert Downey Jr.‘s Tony Stark talking to Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), but it was later cut from the film and replaced with a different one.
On X (formerly Twitter), @MyTimeToShineH revealed, “The original Deadpool and Wolverine post-credits scene had RDJ talking to Wade.”
In the opening scene of Deadpool & Wolverine, Wade travels from his universe to Earth-616 on the “Sacred Timeline” and asks Happy Hogan to join the Avengers. However, Happy rejects his request. The scrapped post-credits scene may have been a continuation, where Wade meets Tony Stark.
Recently, we found that the original script for Deadpool & Wolverine began with the TVA arresting Wade for messing with Cable’s time machine. While in their prison, he overhears that the TVA is looking to recruit Anchor Beings from across the multiverse to create an army to fight the Kangs, and they are searching for a version of Logan.
Wade decides to escape and find that Ultimate Logan before they do, bringing him to his world to be his best friend forever, as he has tried to be BFFs with him for years, but the version from his world is now dead. From there, the plot is quite similar to what we got, with them traveling through the multiverse—this would also provide a more logical explanation for the scene at Avengers Tower with Happy Hogan.
In the end, they still end up in the Void, and the story follows a similar path. The original ending featured Johnny Storm making comments about Cassandra Nova, while the original post-credits scene was meant to show Deadpool returning to Avengers Tower and finally meeting Tony Stark, who rejects him.
A scooper recently posted on X that Marvel originally had a mid-credits scene planned for Deadpool and Wolverine, which involved the Council of Kangs discovering the location of Shang-Chi’s 10 rings and Ms. Marvel’s Nega-Bands.
Directed by Shawn Levy, the film stars Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, alongside Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Stefan Kapičić as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Rob Delaney as Peter, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, and new additions Emma Corrin, Tyler Mane as Sabretooth, and Macfadyen. The script is penned by Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells, Reynolds, and Levy.
Deadpool & Wolverine was released in the United States on July 26 as part of Phase Five of the MCU. It has grossed over $1.33 billion worldwide—becoming the 20th highest-grossing film of all time, the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, and the second-highest-grossing film of 2024.
Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date—”Deadpool & Wolverine.” A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier… reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to— F***. Synopses are so fuck*** stupid.
Deadpool & Wolverine is now available on VOD platforms.
