Citadel Season 2: Prime Video Renews Action Thriller Series with Joe Russo as Director for All Episodes
Prime Video has officially renewed ‘Citadel‘ for Season 2, with Joe Russo confirmed as the director for all episodes. The spy action thriller series, led by Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas in the roles of Citadel agents Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh, is set to continue its action-packed journey.
The series is created by Josh Appelbaum, Bryan Oh, and David Weil for Amazon Prime Video, with the Russo brothers serving as executive producers. The first season contains six episodes, all of which premiered on Prime Video. Recently, Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke revealed on Instagram that Citadel has become the #1 title on Prime Video. Although specific numbers were not provided, a source close to the production disclosed that Citadel’s debut has only been surpassed by Prime Video’s highly anticipated series, LOTR: Rings of Power, which attracted over 25 million viewers on its first day after premiering on September 1.
Salke made a statement (Via Deadline): “Citadel is a truly global phenomenon. Our goal was always to create a new franchise rooted in original IP that would grow Prime Video’s international audience. This show has drawn an outsize number of new international customers to Prime Video. Its massive worldwide debut audience is a testament to Joe and Anthony Russo’s remarkable vision, the incredible talents of Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Lesley Manville, and Stanley Tucci, and the tireless work of the creative teams, cast, and crew. Given the overwhelming number of our customers who have embraced this show, we are not only thrilled to share the premiere episode of Citadel globally without membership but also confirm that the series will return for a second season.”
According to the plot, years ago, the top agents of Citadel, Mason Kane (Richard Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), had their minds wiped. But they’re called back to action as sinister forces emerge from the past. With the help of spymaster Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci), these former lovers must remember the past to save the future.
Citadel is one of the most expensive television shows, with a budget of $300 million.
The series also stars Ashleigh Cummings as Abby Conroy, Roland Møller as Anders and Davik Silje, Osy Ikhile as Carter Spence, Caoilinn Springall as Hendrix Conroy, and Lesley Manville as Dahlia Archer. The guest stars are Moira Kelly as Joe, Timothy Busfield as Simmons, and Nikki Amuka-Bird as Grace.
“AGBO is thrilled to embark on this next phase of the spyverse with Jen, Vernon, and the entire team at Amazon,” said executive producers Anthony and Joe Russo. “The innovative storytelling of Citadel has paved the way for an incredible, worldwide collaboration with creatives in front of and behind the camera.”
