Dwayne Johnson will return as Maui in the live-action ‘Moana’ film, also serving as a producer through his company. Auli’i Cravalho, the original voice of Moana, will executive produce. However, she won’t reprise her role, as a new actor has been cast according to Johnson.

Speaking to Variety, Cravalho said, “It feels like the ‘Moana’ universe is expanding and I love that.” Cravalho added, “I love that Moana is a hero to all. It changed what it meant to be a Disney princess. You can be strong and brave and stand up against a demigod. It feels really good that more and more generations are going to be able to relate to this character.”

According to reports, Disney is hosting a global open casting call for the role of Gramma Tala in the upcoming live-action adaptation of ‘Moana’.

Produced by Flynn Picture Company, Seven Bucks Productions, and The Walt Disney Company.

Disney recently announced that ‘Moana 2’ is in the works, with the film scheduled to hit theaters on November 27, 2024. The plot follows Moana as she receives an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, prompting her to journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she has ever faced.
