Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has recently confirmed that Avengers: Secret Wars will draw inspiration from Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić’s Secret Wars comic run. Secret Wars will combine elements from Hickman and Ribić’s comic run with storylines and characters introduced across the MCU.
According to scooper James Mack, who claimed to have checked a 3D previsualization of Avengers: Secret Wars, Doctor Doom is featured with Sue Storm and Doctor Strange, watching a fight between Gambit and Black Panther.
This would be a direct reference to the 2015 Secret Wars comics, where Doctor Doom watched a trial by combat between Mister Sinister and Captain Britain. Mister Sinister defeated Brian Braddock before God Emperor Doom intervened.
According to Feige, Avengers: Secret Wars will not simply copy the comic storyline. Instead, Marvel plans to weave a new story inspired by its existing comics and MCU history.
He said, “Like Loki gathering up branches of the timeline at the end of all things, we’ll pick up the threads of Hickman and Ribić’s run and all those who came before and weave a new story inspired by the vast tapestry of our comics and films.”
He added, “What we really want to do is two things: first, to bring closure to some storylines that began before Iron Man, including the original X-Men characters. Second, at the same time, to set the stage for the future.”
In a recent interview, Feige confirmed that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will be a centerpiece of the story, calling him “the greatest villain in the history of the Marvel universe.”
“We will bring together the characters we know and love in pinch-me moments that we as fans have always dreamed of but have never seen realized. And we will call on Doctor Doom, the greatest villain in the history of the Marvel universe, to become a centerpiece of that story.”
Feige says there will be “pinch-me” moments in Avengers: Secret Wars, saying Marvel will bring together characters fans have “always dreamed of” seeing together.
Avengers: Secret Wars is currently in pre-production, and additional filming for Avengers: Doomsday has recently been completed. Secret Wars is all set to begin filming in late September 2026 in the U.K.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theaters across the United States on December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled for release on December 17, 2027.
