Report: Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals, Silicon Valley) has been cast as Booster Gold in James Gunn‘s DC Universe, as confirmed by Nexus Point News. He will appear in the standalone series, which is scheduled to begin filming this year.

On the image of the Superman (2025) logo shared by Gunn on X (Twitter), Nanjiani responded with “In”—sparking rumors about him possibly having a role in the DCU.

Recently, there have also been rumors about The Boys star Antony Starr—who plays Homelander—joining the DCU as Booster Gold. Starr addressed these rumors while speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. He said (via CBR), “Booster Gold. What does he do? No, tell me. I genuinely don’t [know]. I’m a little slow. Does he have blonde hair? Wow, how did you come up with that? You really dug deep for that one.”

Who is Booster Gold In DC Comics? Michael Carter, better known as Booster Gold, was created by writer Dan Jurgens and first appeared in “Booster Gold” #1 in 1986. He is a 25th-century guy named Michael Jon Carter who, feeling frustrated with his life, swipes some cool gadgets from a museum and heads back to the 20th century. There, he becomes a superhero called Booster Gold, hoping to hit it big. He got powers from the suit, which gives him super strength, lets him fly, shoot energy blasts, and create force fields. Plus, he can time travel.

According to DC Studios co-CEO Gunn in a statement, “Booster Gold is one of comics’ really popular cult heroes, he’s a fascinating guy, he’s a loser from the future who uses future technology to come back to the present day and become a superhero so that people will love him. It is basically a superhero story of impostor syndrome in an HBO Max series.”

The show, based on the DC Comics superhero of the same name, will be an installment of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters in the DC Universe, produced by DC Studios.

‘Booster Gold’ is produced by DC Studios’ Gunn and Peter Safran and is set for release on Max in 2026.
