According to a review, “Amoral, black and furry “Cocaine Bear” rampages; rips apart Hollywood conventions — The title character in “Cocaine Bear” makes more rational decisions than people do after sniffing Bolivian marching powder.”
Letterboxd has published the review for Cocaine Bear, “Elizabeth Banks does tend to show her hand a little bit too early, and that creates an awkwardness in the film especially when it comes to the comedic moments, It’s got tons of dark humor, and sometimes it lands and sometimes it doesn’t. Cocaine Bear has an insane sequence featuring the bear in the ambulance; everything about that scene bangs, and it highlights the film’s strengths.”
A few user reviews were not favorable for the film’s cocaine usage. A user wrote on Twitter, “Disappointed to see Hollywood once again sensationalize cocaine use in the new film ‘Cocaine Bear’, which entertains audiences (including children) by portraying cocaine use as fun and funny. The cocaine epidemic is largely a demand-side problem that ruins lives, destroys families, orphans children, kills 25K Americans/yr & finances deadly cartel activity. We should all be offended by entertainment that makes light of drugs that are ripping apart our country.”
Inspired by the 1985 true story of a drug runner’s plane crash, missing cocaine, and the black bear that ate it, this wild dark comedy finds an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists, and teens converging in a Georgia forest where a 500- pound apex predator has ingested a staggering amount of cocaine and gone on a coke-fueled rampage for more blow … and blood.
Cocaine Bear will hit theaters on February 24, 2023, by Universal Pictures.
