Robert Downey Jr. was born on April 4th, 1965, in Manhattan, New York City. His father, Robert Downey Sr., is an actor and film producer, while his mother, Elsie Ann, was an actress who appeared in Downey Sr.’s films.
Downey made his acting debut at the age of five in his father’s film, Pound (1970). At the age of ten, he was living in England and studying classical ballet. As a teenager, he attended the Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Training Center in upstate New York.
After his parent’s divorce in 1978, he moved out to California with his dad. A few years later he dropped out of Santa Monica High School and moved to New York to pursue his acting career full-time.

In 2007, Downey earned the role of Tony Stark in the blockbuster film Iron Man, due mainly to the support of the director, Jon Favreau. The film had low expectations at the time, and many critics didn’t think the film would be a success.
Downey Jr. was paid only $500,000 for the role. However, the film made over $580 million at the box office, and the success of the film is what lead to the creation of the Marvel cinematic universe (MCU).
As the MCU grew in popularity, so did Downey’s net worth. As being the face of the MCU franchise, Downey was able to negotiate some seriously high paydays for his appearances in the films. His final film in the MCU was the movie Avengers: Endgame. For the film, Downey received a whopping $75 million dollars from his base salary and percentage of profits.
