A new casting rumor has surfaced for Doctor Strange 3. According to the latest update from Production Weekly, Denzel Washington has been cast as Dormammu in the third Doctor Strange movie. Check it out below.
Marvel Studios has not provided any official update, but Washington is rumored to have been offered the role of Dormammu in the MCU.
In Marvel Comics, Dormammu is an interdimensional entity—and the ruler of the Dark Dimension—a realm outside of time and space. He was introduced in Doctor Strange (2016). In the film, Dormammu is the main antagonist, manipulating the villain Kaecilius and his followers to bring the Dark Dimension to Earth. Doctor Strange ultimately confronts Dormammu by trapping him in a time loop using the Time Stone—forcing the entity to negotiate and withdraw from Earth in exchange for his freedom from the loop.
According to reports, Sam Raimi is finalizing a deal with Marvel Studios to return as the director of Doctor Strange 3. Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Doctor Strange, and Charlize Theron will return as Clea.
It is reported that Marvel Studios plans to adapt elements from the Time Runs Out comic event in Doctor Strange 3. The film will continue from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where Charlize Theron’s Clea—who comes from another dimension—seeks Strange’s help to fix an incursion he caused. Clea is part of the multiversal group known as The Black Priests, based in the Nothing Space of destroyed universes, which were formed from two dead universes after an incursion. The film will explore the dying Multiverse as a result of ongoing incursions, including Doctor Strange’s actions, and further reveal his threat to the Multiverse as hinted in Multiverse of Madness.
The release date for Doctor Strange 3 is to be announced (TBA).
