Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday received an exciting update as a new rumor reportedly hints that Robert Downey Jr.‘s Doctor Doom and Scarlet Witch will team up in the film. Elizabeth Olsen is set to return as Scarlet Witch, and this will not be a variant of the character.
According to insider and tracker Grace Randolph on Beyond The Trailer’s reaction, “Wanda being alive and with Doom was supposed to be a major reveal, but it seems that focus has shifted, which somewhat negates the Children’s Crusade storyline. Jack Schaefer needs to stick around to address this—there’s a bit of a mess. The MCU’s magic corner may have a smaller audience, so it doesn’t get the same priority, but for comic fans, it’s frustrating.”
Speaking of Children’s Crusade, there are rumors of a Young Avengers movie in development. However, it can’t follow the same storyline, as the big reveal is already being given to Avengers: Doomsday. Personally, I think a Young Avengers movie might be better suited for Disney+. I’d rather see junior-level Avengers as trainees on the main team, rather than in an entirely separate group.
Wiccan, for example, already seems ready to join the Avengers—he’s incredibly powerful. He might even be needed to confront Wanda. Could we get Doctor Strange versus Scarlet Witch, Round Two? Last time, he couldn’t defeat her; she forfeited. This time, she’s teamed up with Doom, a powerful science and magic user. Doctor Strange will definitely need help—maybe from Loki, if he can get out of that chair, or from Wiccan. There’s also the possibility of Agatha’s ghost, Jennifer Kale, and Rio (aka Death) making an appearance. And if Wanda returns, Billy and ghost Agatha should be there to react. Just like Peter Parker has his response when encountering big characters, Billy and Agatha would add to the scene if Wanda reappears. In fact, Peter Parker and Billy could be friends, given that they’re in the same age group—an interesting idea.
There’s also a chance that Agatha’s ghost, Jennifer Kale, and Rio (aka Death) could make appearances. And if Wanda returns, Billy and ghost Agatha should be there to respond. Just as Peter Parker has memorable interactions with major characters, Billy and Agatha would add depth to the moment if Wanda reappears. In fact, Peter Parker and Billy becoming friends could be an interesting angle, as they’re in the same age group.
Speaking to FM104, Olsen believes her MCU character, Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, has been well utilized in the films, and she’s open to returning. She spoke about the possibility of reprising her role as Wanda in the MCU, saying, “If there’s a good way to use her, I’m always happy to come back.”
Filming for Avengers: Doomsday is set to begin in March 2025, with the Russo Brothers directing and Stephen McFeely writing the script. Unusually for Marvel, the Russo Brothers will also produce both films through their AGBO banner.
As reported, Avengers: Doomsday will be a multiverse film—because it’s the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga. The plot of Avengers: Doomsday follows Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, who isn’t truly evil; he believes he is trying to save the multiverse from incursions. In his twisted logic, the only way for the multiverse to survive is to unify all universes in one place—Battleworld—under his rule. He sees this as the sole path to ensuring survival for everyone.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on May 1, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars will be released on May 7, 2027.
