Disney+ is hiring James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now, Shrinking) to direct some episodes of “Wonder Man.” Filming is set to commence toward the end of January 2024. Discussing Film says that Ponsoldt and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’s Destin Daniel Cretton will work together to direct the series.
Wonder Man will be played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Abdul-Mateen II previously played the role of Black Manta in DC’s Aquaman, he will reprise in the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Who Is Wonder Man In Marvel?
Wonder Man is created by Stan Lee and artists Don Heck and Jack Kirby. The character debuted in Marvel Comics in 1964 with The Avengers #9. Wonder Man, also known as Simon Williams, is the son of businessman Sanford Williams, who takes over management of his father’s munitions company after his father’s death, seeing its success restricted when it competes with Tony Stark’s Stark Industries. While working for the evil Baron Zemo and establishing himself as an antagonist to The Avengers, the younger Williams obtains ion-based superpowers, including super strength; however, he subsequently decides to join that heroic team.
Ben Kingsley’s Trevor Slattery, who played Mandarin in Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, also appears in the series. More cast members will be announced after the production begins.
The release of Wonder Man on Disney+ is scheduled for early 2025.
