The Russo Brothers have confirmed that Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday will have a different tone than previous Avengers films.
When looking into the four trailers of Doomsday which were recently released, we can see the different tone of the movie, as the directors say, “Look, the movie is very complex.”

In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, the Russo Brothers teased a tonal shift in Avengers: Doomsday. The presence of Robert Downey Jr.‘s Doctor Doom is expected to majorly shape the film’s atmosphere. Anthony Russo says that, “I think we’ve found a new level of that in Doomsday,” and Joe Russo hinted at a darker edge, stating, “Victor von Doom demands a certain tone.”
“As much as we run at the fun in terms of what these films can be,” says Anthony, “we also run at the complexity and the difficulty of what these movies can do at a narrative level. I think we’ve found a new level of that in Doomsday.” Joe has a more ominous way of putting it: “Victor van Doom demands a certain tone.”
Recently, Gavin Bocquet, the production designer for Avengers: Doomsday, revealed that 80% of the interior sets used physical backings in the film, allowing scenes to be captured entirely in-camera.
Bocquet said, “The default situation before us was, ‘Let’s put a blue screen out there,’ but we had physical backings for 80% of the interior sets, so it was all in-camera. And then it was all in-camera, you know, and in the end, that’s as much a visual choice as a money choice—if they don’t have to change the exterior. So wherever we could, we brought that bit of experience in just to adjust those things, rather than presuming you can always add it with visual effects.”
Directed by the Russo brothers from a screenplay by their longtime collaborator Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron.
