It’s official! For fans of X-Men, Marvel’s X-Men film — set in the MCU — will be directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), as confirmed by Black Panther director Ryan Coogler.
While promoting Marvel’s Ironheart series, which Coogler is executive producing, he told a fan (@zacidk) that Schreier will direct the X-Men movie.
@zacidk asked, “I don’t know if you’ve seen — there’s so much, almost a fan cast, a director — for you to direct the X-Men films. Have you seen that online?”
Coogler replied, “No, no, no — Jake is directing that.”
A report from Variety also confirmed that Schreier is directing the X-Men movie, although Marvel Studios hasn’t made the news official yet.

A recent report from insider Alex Perez (via Cosmic Circus) reveals that Marvel is planning to use Mr. Sinister, Essex, Senator Kelly, and Bolivar Trask as the main antagonists in the X-Men movie.
Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) is penning the script. Filming is expected to begin after Avengers: Secret Wars.
During the Disney APAC Content Showcase, Marvel President Kevin Feige spoke about the future of the X-Men, calling their return to Marvel Studios “a dream come true.”
Feige said, “I think you will see that continue in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize.” He added, “Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, [it’s] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.”
The Russo Brothers have reportedly signed a new deal with Marvel Studios to oversee additional projects for the next saga, including the X-Men reboot movie.
Disney has recently announced that an untitled MCU movie will be released on December 15, 2028. It is possibly the X-Men movie or Black Panther 3.
