Marvel Studios has started planning for the upcoming MCU saga post-Avengers: Secret Wars. Along with that, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds has started developing the script for a new MCU movie.

According to Daniel Richtman in his new Patreon post, Reynolds is reportedly developing his own mutants team-up film for the next saga of the MCU.

Marvel Studios is reportedly planning to introduce Mr. Sinister, Essex, Senator Kelly, and Bolivar Trask as the main villains in the upcoming X-Men reboot, setting the stage for a powerful antagonist lineup.

Richtman also said, “Marvel Studios is reportedly planning the next saga of the MCU around X-Men villains Mr. Sinister and Apocalypse. The studio has some actors in mind, but no one has been cast yet.“

In an interview with THR last year, Reynolds said, “I’m more passionate about storytelling than I am about acting.” Reynolds added, “If I win, great. If I lose, I get to also feel like I was the architect of my own demise.”

He also said that Deadpool could appear opposite the X-Men and the Avengers—but that the character joining those teams would have unintended consequences. “His ultimate dream is to be accepted and appreciated. But he can’t be accepted. His coping mechanism of deflecting shame through humor works only when used to pave over his many inadequacies. If—and when—he does become an Avenger or X-Man, we’re at the end of his journey.”

We heard that Reynolds is returning as Deadpool in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, as part of the TVA’s Superheroes Exiles. “The Exiles is a team that features characters who’ve been displaced from their home universe and travel the multiverse, repairing or saving realities and timelines.”

The upcoming X-Men reboot film will be directed by Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier. Schreier spoke about taking on the project:

Schreier said, “The core idea of what ‘X-Men’ is involves complexity. It’s an incredible opportunity with super interesting characters and [much] internal conflict. These characters are wrestling with their identity and place in the world—that’s inherently interesting and complex material.”

Ryan Coogler has confirmed that Jake Schreier, known for directing Thunderbolts, will helm Marvel Studios' upcoming X-Men reboot set in the MCU.

“To be able to explore all of the ideas that are inherent to that rich source material, but also at the scale inherent to the source material—that’s a very rare and fortunate opportunity. That’s very exciting.”

Marvel President Kevin Feige, during the Disney APAC Content Showcase, spoke about the future of the X-Men, calling their return to Marvel Studios “a dream come true.”

Feige said, “I think you will see that continue in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize.” He added, “Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, [it’s] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.”

Avengers: Doomsday is set to release in the United States on December 18, 2026, as part of Phase Six of the MCU. Its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, will follow on December 17, 2027.
