Following the massive success of Deadpool & Wolverine, which grossed $1.338 billion and became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, Ryan Reynolds is currently writing a Deadpool & X-Men team-up film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is in the early stages of development, with Reynolds working independently of Marvel Studios. He hasn’t yet pitched any concepts to Marvel.

The Deadpool & X-Men concept would team Deadpool with three to four X-Men characters, with Deadpool appearing in a supporting role. It is reported that, as of now, Reynolds is not interested in a solo Deadpool movie and believes sidelining Deadpool slightly could open new opportunities to explore the X-Men in fresh and unexpected ways.
Marvel Studios is already developing an X-Men reboot movie, with the script penned by Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes). The film will begin production after Avengers: Secret Wars. Reynolds’ Deadpool & X-Men team-up film will not be connected to the MCU’s X-Men reboot.
Our source recently confirmed that Mr. Sinister is reportedly the villain in the current draft of the X-Men reboot movie, and the Russo Brothers have signed a new deal with Marvel to oversee additional projects for the next saga, which includes the X-Men movie.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds said that teaming Deadpool with the X-Men and the Avengers would have unintended consequences.
Reynolds said, “His ultimate dream is to be accepted and appreciated. But he can’t be accepted.” He added, “His coping mechanism of deflecting shame through humor works only when used to pave over his many inadequacies. If and when he does become an Avenger or X-Man, we’re at the end of his journey.”
For Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel has officially announced that several popular X-Men actors will return, including Ian McKellen (Magneto), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), James Marsden (Cyclops), Channing Tatum (Gambit), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), Patrick Stewart (Professor X), and Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler). Filming is now underway in the United Kingdom.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on May 1, 2026.
