Saoirse Ronan Reportedly Joins Cast of Greta Gerwig's The Chronicles of Narnia

Saoirse Ronan (The Outrun, Foe) is rumored to have joined the cast of Greta Gerwig‘s The Chronicles of Narnia film from Netflix, as reported by World of Reel.

According to the report, Ronan’s role in Narnia will be a supporting one. Filming has yet to begin, and no official cast details have been revealed so far. Recently, a rumor surfaced that Louis Partridge (Enola Holmes 2, The Lost Girls) had reportedly been cast in Gerwig’s The Chronicles of Narnia, but Netflix has debunked this, confirming that Partridge is not cast.

Ronan previously worked with Gerwig on Lady Bird and Little Women, and the Narnia movie marks their third collaboration.

After the $1 billion-grossing Barbie movie, Gerwig signed a deal with Netflix to write and direct at least two films based on C. S. Lewis‘ The Chronicles of Narnia. Gerwig will direct from a screenplay written by Matthew Aldrich and Lewis.

In a recent interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today program (via Deadline), Gerwig revealed that she feels intimidated by her next project, the Chronicles of Narnia adaptation for Netflix: “I’m slightly in the place of terror because I really do have such reverence for Narnia.” she added, “I loved Narnia so much as a child. As an adult, C.S. Lewis is a thinker and a writer. I’m intimidated by doing this. It’s something that feels like a worthy thing to be intimidated by.”

Netflix already had a multi-year deal with The C.S. Lewis Company, signed in October 2018. The deal aims to develop new series and film projects based on the widely acclaimed book series. In collaboration with Entertainment One, Netflix will bring stories from the vast Narnia universe to life through both series and films.

In a statement, Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer of Netflix, said, “C.S. Lewis’ beloved Chronicles of Narnia stories have resonated with generations of readers around the world.” Sarandos added, “Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we’re thrilled to be their home for years to come.“

Gerwig may be shooting both films in the Narnia series back-to-back. During the project announcement, the release date for the first film was set for December 2025 on Netflix.
