Susan Downey says ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ is still happening. “We’re going to do it when it’s right, with the right people, but it is a priority for the company and a priority for Robert Downey Jr.”
‘Sherlock Holmes 3‘ is currently in development, and Robert Downey Jr. is set to return. The film was planned to release in 2021, but there were no official announcements regarding the project until 2023. According to Robert Downey Jr.’s wife Susan Downey, alongside her producing partner Amanda Burrell, Sherlock Holmes 3′ is reportedly still happening.
During an interview with The Wrap, Susan Downey said that ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ with Robert Downey Jr. is reportedly still happening. She said, “Well, here’s what I can tell you. And Amanda can attest to this. Prior to this, we had lunch together with Robert, the three of us. And it was a very specific topic of conversation.” Downey added, “So yes, it is in the hopper. We’re going to do it when it’s right, with the right people, but it is a priority for the company and a priority for Robert.”
She continued, “I do know, like, there are times where just I’ve had more years of experience to know when to settle down and follow the process. Like, as much as we want to will that into existence, you have to let a couple of things happen before you do the big push, and maybe it gets there on its own.”
Dexter Fletcher, who was attached to direct the film after replacing Guy Ritchie, Fletcher said the film is “not currently” in development and that he doesn’t “know where [Downey Jr.’s] appetite for it is.”
Sherlock Holmes 3 will be a sequel to Sherlock Holmes (2009) and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011) and stars Robert Downey Jr. as the brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law as his loyal friend and sidekick, Dr. John Watson. The first two films were directed by Guy Ritchie and produced by Warner Bros. Pictures. Both films grossed $1.069 billion at the worldwide box office.
