Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland, will reportedly feature “a dark, mysterious female character” with a Japanese-inspired look. The costume department is currently researching armor inspired by Japanese Shinobi and Samurai, specifically from the late 17th century.
According to a report by Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus), Marvel’s costume department is actively researching traditional Japanese aesthetics, focusing on armor styles inspired by Shinobi and Samurai warriors from the late Sengoku and early Edo periods (17th-century Japan).

Alex confirmed that a “dark, mysterious female character” is reportedly being developed, with a look heavily influenced by traditional Japanese fashion and warrior armor. The costume team is focusing on making the designs look historically accurate, as they are using layered fabrics, armor pieces, and simple but bold shapes.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will begin filming in August 2025 in the United Kingdom. Destin Daniel Cretton will direct the film with a “storyline that could bridge the street-level story and the multiverse together.” The script is penned by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, and the production budget is $200 million.
We reported that Peng Zhang will serve as the stunt coordinator for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He previously worked on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
