Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day will begin production in Glasgow, Scotland, on August 1, 2025, while Tom Holland, who reprises his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, revealed that the movie will focus on old-school filmmaking and shooting in real locations.

In an interview with Flip Your Wig, Holland said that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will use practical effects and classic filmmaking techniques. The production will prioritize shooting in real-world locations rather than relying heavily on CGI or virtual sets.

Holland also said that the previous Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, was limited by COVID-19 protocols. But with the new film, the team can now go bigger and be more authentic with practical sets. Also, a major action sequence will be filmed on the streets of Glasgow. He said, “We are gonna use the streets of Glasgow for this massive set piece that we are putting together.”

Holland said, “We were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of COVID… Now we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations… We are gonna use the streets of Glasgow for this massive set piece that we are putting together.” He added, “It’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air… fans are gonna be over the moon with what we’re putting together.”

Recently, The Times reported that in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a building is set to explode. The special effects team is reportedly creating a digital model of the Scottish Legal Life Assurance Building so they can blow it up virtually for the film.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the film will be a “multiversal grounded” story featuring multiple villains, including Tarantula, Scorpion, Boomerang, Tombstone, and more.

Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4 twist

Here’s the plot synopsis for Spider-Man: Brand New Day:

After the world has forgotten his name, Peter Parker (Holland) begins a new chapter in his life — balancing college classes, part-time work, and his responsibility as New York’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. But when a mysterious force begins to unravel the city from the inside out, Peter finds himself caught between powerful enemies, old legacies, and unexpected allies. As shadows from the past creep into his present, he must redefine what it truly means to be a hero — on his own.

In the film, Holland will be returning as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon also reprising their roles as MJ Watson and Ned Leeds. Sadie Sink is rumored to play Gwen Stacy, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, a.k.a. the Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, and Liza Colón-Zayas has been cast in an undisclosed role. Additionally, Michael Mando is expected to reprise his Spider-Man: Homecoming role as Mac Gargan.

The film will be produced by Amy Pascal, Rachel O’Connor, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Mitch Bell.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters and IMAX on July 31, 2026.
