Warning: This post may contain potential spoilers for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day update reveals the film will have a darker tone. It will be somewhat similar to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 or the Kraven’s Last Hunt storyline from the comics.
According to scooper Daniel Richtman in a post on his Patreon, Frank Castle (a.k.a. the Punisher) will reportedly have new weapons to handle bigger threats in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He’ll also be equipped with high-tech gear and a tank to help fight larger enemies.

It’s also reported that Michael Mando‘s Mac Gargan / Scorpion will have a significant role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Recently on Instagram, Mando teased that he will wear the comic-accurate Scorpion suit in the movie.

Richtman also said that Zendaya, who is confirmed to return as MJ Watson in Brand New Day, will not be filming any scenes in Glasgow, Scotland, but she is currently there to support Tom Holland. Although MJ will have an important role in the film, she won’t have a lot of screen time.
Back in December 2024, speaking to Deadline, Spider-Man franchise producer Amy Pascal said, “We’re starting to shoot the next Spider-Man movie with Destin Daniel Cretton. He’s a wonderful director. I love No Mercy, I love Short Term 12, I love Shang-Chi. I think he did a wonderful job.”
When addressing the last Spider-Man movie’s ending and Peter being forgotten by the world, she said, “Well, we have to deal with the fact that he decided he was going to give up being Peter Parker. And he was going to focus on being Spider-Man because being Peter Parker was too hard. That’s what the movie is about.”
We recently updated the plot, revealing that the Spider-Man and Punisher vs. Hulk showdown takes place only in the first act of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. However, Bruce Banner’s rampage is not the main conflict—it’s a clue pointing to a larger, hidden threat. The true cause of Hulk’s rage ties into the main plot, which involves a group of villains including Scorpion, Ramrod, Tombstone, Boomerang, and Tarantula, led by Mister Negative. The Punisher wants to kill Hulk, believing he’s too dangerous. But Peter Parker wants to save Bruce; he sees him as a victim, not an enemy. They team up to stop the Hulk.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the film stars Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon also reprising their roles as MJ Watson and Ned Leeds. Sadie Sink joins the cast as Gwen Stacy, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle (a.k.a. the Punisher), and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk. Liza Colón-Zayas has been cast in an undisclosed role, and Mando is reprising his Spider-Man: Homecoming role as Mac Gargan.
The film is produced by Pascal, Rachel O’Connor, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Mitch Bell.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will hit theaters and IMAX on July 31, 2026.
