Spider-Man developer Bryan Intihar keeps it simple: ‘Let’s let the Wolverine team cook. For now, their focus is on creating the best Wolverine game possible. Future crossovers? Maybe. But right now, let’s give them the runway they need.’
Recently, Insomniac confirmed that Spider-Man and Wolverine games share the Earth-1048 universe.
In an IGN interview, Senior Creative Director Intihar from Insomniac Games discusses the studio’s approach to crossovers with other Marvel properties, including the upcoming Wolverine PS5 game and ‘Beyond The Spider-Verse.’
The interviewer asked, “Let’s address the Wolverine in the room. There’s a suit. Miles gets a Wolverine suit. Were there plans to do any other teaser stuff like that at any point? Was there anything like Logan is going to walk in the post-credits scene?”
Intihar said, “We wouldn’t be true Marvel fans if we didn’t have a discussion like that, but I think for us it was. Hey, working on these games is really hard; they’re really complicated. And I think it was just like, Hey, let’s make the Wolverine team cook, and if that ever happens in the future, great. But right now, let’s not box anybody into a corner, and let’s just make sure that they have a clear runaway to make the best Wolverine game possible. It’s going to be awesome, so I’m really excited about it.”
Marvel’s Wolverine game was announced in 2021 with a teaser trailer that promised ‘cutting-edge gameplay’ and an ’emotional story,’ with no confirmed release window.
According to Insomniac Games, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will explore different locations within New York City besides outer Manhattan, such as Queens. Both Peter Parker and Miles Morales are playable as Spider-Man, with a different set of abilities: Peter Parker now has the Venom suit that gives him abilities that greatly improve his combat prowess and ability to defeat multiple goons at once, while Miles Morales has his unique abilities such as Camouflage invisibility and his venom blast. Also, the bar-based Focus system returns from the first game, meaning Miles’ Bio Electric from his spin-off game is integrated into the L1-based Power Gauge system alongside Peter’s own Power Gauge system.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is now available on PlayStation 5. Read our review.
