Sydney Sweeney has revealed that there’s a ‘high chance‘ for a sequel to Sony’s rom-com ‘Anyone But You‘.
During her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Sweeney talked about the possibility of a sequel to ‘Anyone But You’ following its box office success.
Fallon: “Do you think fans are hoping for a sequel? Do you think maybe we’ll see a sequel?”
Sweeney: “Maybe, like a high nine chance. Oh, really? You’re working on it?”
Fallon: “Oh, that’s what I’m talking about! Alright, I can’t wait to see it.”
Recently, at the 2024 SAG Awards, Glen Powell revealed to Variety that he and Sweeney have been reading scripts together, in search of their next project.
Powell said, “Sydney reads everything, by the way, and in record time. She’s the fastest reader I think I’ve ever met. It takes me a little longer, but we’re reading everything and just trying to see what makes sense, what we can turn into something that audiences are going to respond to.”
‘Anyone But You’ becomes the first rom-com since ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ in 2018 to gross $200 million at the worldwide box office. The film is based on Ilana Wolpert’s script, which Will Gluck is rewriting and directing. Produced by Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum, and Gluck (who, with his Olive Bridge Entertainment, has a first-look deal with Sony), Executive produced by Sweeney for Fifty-Fifty Films, Natalie Sellers, and Alyssa Altman for RK Films.
In the edgy comedy Anyone But You, Bea (Sweeney) and Ben (Powell) look like the perfect couple, but after an amazing first date something happens that turns their fiery hot attraction ice cold – until they find themselves unexpectedly thrust together at a destination wedding in Australia. So they do what any two mature adults would do: pretend to be a couple.
‘Anyone But You’ is now available on digital platforms.
