The Last of Us Season 3 is currently in pre-production, with all the episode scripts penned by showrunner Craig Mazin, following Neil Druckmann‘s decision to “step back creatively” from the show back in July.
According to Production List, filming for The Last of Us Season 3 is confirmed to begin on April 1, 2026, in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
As reported, Season 3 will adapt Kaitlyn Dever‘s Abby perspective from the 2020 video game The Last of Us Part II, occurring concurrently with the events of the previous season. Fans will also see what Abby was up to while Ellie and Dina were in Seattle.
Speaking to THR, Mazin said that The Last of Us Season 3 will be longer than Season 2. He explained, “We’re kind of fiddling around with that — it’s a little bit of a trade secret at the moment. But I will say that Season 3 will be longer than Season 2. Season 3 will be more on par with Season 1. More bang for the buck.”
In a recent episode of The Awardist podcast, Bella Ramsey opened up about the backlash over The Last of Us Season 2 leading into Season 3.
Ramsey said, “You don’t have to watch it. If you hate it so much, the game exists … you can just play the game again. But if you do want to watch it, then I hope you enjoy it.”
According to a report from @DomTheBombYT, The Last of Us Season 3 will be a bigger season than both 1 and 2, featuring:

According to insider @DanielRPK, HBO is currently holding casting auditions for Lev in Season 3 of The Last of Us.
The cast of The Last of Us Season 3 includes Ramsey as Ellie Williams, Dever as Abby Anderson, Gabriel Luna as Tommy Miller, Isabela Merced as Dina, and Young Mazino as Jesse. Recurring roles feature Spencer Lord as Owen, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Ariela Barer as Mel, and Danny Ramirez as Manny.
“As much as I miss getting into the weeds and working on the effects shots — giving script notes and really diving into the details — I’m trying to just shepherd it,” Druckmann said in September 2025. “My hope for Season 3 — and what I’d like to think I can best contribute to it — is to make sure it’s as deeply faithful as Season 1 was. I feel like that is the gold standard for this kind of adaptation, while still enjoying all these beautiful expansions that happen naturally with the rest of the team and how they’re working on Season 3. So that is where my involvement will stay — at that very, very high level.”
The Last of Us Season 3 will premiere on HBO in 2027. Seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on the platform.
