Legend of Zelda live-action trilogy

The Production List has revealed that filming will begin in New Zealand from November 2025 to April 2026.

According to the synopsis, the live-action adaptation of the video game franchise The Legend of Zelda follows Link, a young warrior destined to protect the magical kingdom of Hyrule from the forces of darkness. The land is under threat from Ganon, a ruthless warlord who seeks the Triforce—an ancient relic said to grant limitless power. To stop him, Link must embark on a perilous journey, battling monstrous creatures, exploring treacherous dungeons, and solving intricate puzzles to uncover sacred artifacts that can aid him in his quest.

Directed by Wes Ball, known for the Maze Runner trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the film is based on a screenplay by Derek Connolly.

Produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, representative director and fellow of Nintendo, and Avi Arad, former chief creative officer of Marvel Entertainment. The film is a co-production between Nintendo and Arad Productions.

In a statement, Miyamoto said, “This is Miyamoto. I have been working on the live-action film of ‘The Legend of Zelda’ for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films.” Miyamoto added, “I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”

The Legend of Zelda will hit theaters on March 26, 2027.
