Tim Burton considered making a ‘Catwoman‘ spin-off movie, as shared by Daniel Waters, the screenwriter of ‘Batman Returns.’
The concept involved an $18 million black-and-white film, similar to ‘Cat People,’ portraying Selina Kyle in a low-key life within a small town.
In an interview with IndieWire, Waters revealed that he and Burton had different visions for the Catwoman film. Burton wanted an intimate drama, while Waters Vision was a satirical take on the superhero genre, with Selina Kyle moving to a Gothamized Los Angeles and confronting three corrupt superheroes.
Waters said, “He wanted to do an $18 million black and white movie, like the original ‘Cat People,’ of Selina just lowkey living in a small town.” Waters added, “And I wanted to make a ‘Batman’ movie where the metaphor was about ‘Batman.’ So I had her move to a Los Angeles version of Gotham City, and it’s run by three asshole superheroes. It was ‘The Boys’ before ‘The Boys.’ But he got exhausted reading my script.”
Michelle Pfeiffer portrayed Selina Kyle/Catwoman in Batman Returns (1992).
Michael Keaton, known for his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992), reprised his iconic role in DC’s ‘The Flash‘ movie.
