A new plot leak for Alejandro G. Iñárritu‘s Digger, starring Tom Cruise, has surfaced. Warner Bros. recently released the first trailer for the film, in which Cruise plays the most powerful man in the world, who embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he unleashed destroys everything.
The movie opens by making viewers believe that Cruise is an elderly billionaire named Digger Rockwell, one of the richest men on Earth. Digger is shown ignoring warnings from a climate scientist in Greenland, who reports a massive crack in the ice that is releasing dangerous methane into the atmosphere.

On X, user The Beyond Reporter shared details from the first half of Digger. Note: The following contains spoilers.
For the first 25 minutes, the film makes you believe Tom Cruise is an old man named Digger Rockwell, one of the richest people on Earth. He has a cat that’s barely alive, and a climate scientist in Greenland, along with about 30 other men working for him, is trying to warn him over video chat about a massive crack in the ice that’s releasing methane into the atmosphere. Digger, however, insists on continuing to drill for oil.
Scientists at his mansion eventually reveal that the entire team in Greenland died in a fiery explosion and that a glacier roughly seven times the size of Boston is now heading toward Europe and will devastate the continent.
Around the 30-minute mark, the film introduces its first major twist: none of these events are real. Tom Cruise isn’t actually Digger Rockwell—he’s an actor portraying him.
From that point on, the story unfolds across multiple layers. One storyline focuses on the stage play being performed, in which Riz Ahmed plays the climate scientist and John Goodman portrays the President. Within the play, American leaders, including Digger, are depicted as deeply religious, conservative figures who are largely incompetent.
Alejandro G. Iñárritu directs Digger and co-wrote the script with Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris Jr., and Nicolás Giacobone. The story was developed by Iñárritu and Berman.
Digger stars Cruise as Digger Rockwell, a wealthy oil tycoon, alongside Riz Ahmed as Ganesh, John Goodman as the President of the United States, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Robert John Burke, Emma D’Arcy, Burn Gorman, Sophie Wilde, Pip Torrens, and Mercedes Hernández as Digger’s housekeeper.
Digger will be released in theaters by Warner Bros. Pictures on October 2, 2026.
