Warning: This post contains major spoilers for Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Avengers: Doomsday.
Vanessa Kirby has revealed her experience working with Robert Downey Jr. on the set of Avengers: Doomsday, where she is reprising her role as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman. She describes Downey Jr. as “soulful, deep, and kind.”
Speaking to Happy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz, Kirby praised Downey Jr.’s performance in Avengers: Doomsday. “He’s just doing the most amazing work.” She said he has been an amazing leader on set. Despite many cast members being veterans of the Marvel world, he has been welcoming and supportive to newcomers like Kirby.

Beyond his kindness and leadership, Vanessa praised him again, noting that he is delivering phenomenal work in Avengers: Doomsday.
Kirby said, “He’s the most incredible human being — soulful, deep, and kind. He’s been an amazing leader to us, considering we’re the newbies, while many of the others have known this world for a really long time. He’s been a phenomenal leader, and he’s also just doing the most amazing work.”
Kirby revealed that she’s heading back to London to film additional scenes for Avengers: Doomsday.
She said, “We’re going back to do more and I’m loving it… It’s been the coolest thing to be shooting an Avengers movie while pregnant.”
Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm / Invisible Woman (Kirby), Johnny Storm / Human Torch (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm / The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet — and everyone on it — weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.
The film also stars Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles. Directed by Matt Shakman, produced by Kevin Feige, and executive produced by Louis D’Esposito, Grant Curtis, and Tim Lewis.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters and IMAX on July 25, 2025, and Avengers: Doomsday will be released on December 18, 2026.
