The VOD and DVD release dates for ‘Waitress: The Musical‘ have been announced. The film will be available on digital HD platforms like Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Vudu, and Google Play Movies & TV on January 23, 2024. Additionally, the DVD and Blu-ray release is set for February 6, 2024, and pre-orders are now available on Amazon.
What is the Plot of ‘Waitress: The Musical’?
According to the film’s plot, “Waitress: The Musical brings the Tony-nominated Broadway phenomenon to the big screen. Featuring composer-lyricist Sara Bareilles as Jenna Hunterson, a waitress and expert pie maker stuck in a small town and a loveless marriage. When a baking contest in a nearby county offers her a chance at escape, Jenna fights to reclaim a long-forgotten part of herself. Through the support of her fellow waitresses and an unexpected romance, Jenna begins to find the courage to take a long-abandoned dream off the shelf. Waitress celebrates the power of friendship, dreams, the family we choose, and the beauty of a well-baked pie.”
The film is a live recording of Bareilles and Jessie Nelson’s 2015 musical, based on the 2007 film by Adrienne Shelly. It features the cast, including Bareilles, who also produces, along with Charity Angél Dawson, Caitlin Houlahan, Drew Gehling, Dakin Matthews, Eric Anderson, Joe Tippett, and Christopher Fitzgerald. Directed by Diane Paulus, with Brett Sullivan overseeing the live filming and Nelson as a film creative advisor.
‘Waitress: The Musical’ premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 12, 2023, and had its theatrical release in the United States on December 7, 2023, through a collaboration between Bleecker Street and Fathom Events.
