Wes Anderson was very proud when Venice gave him a nearly 4-minute standing ovation for his movie ‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.’ The film also received a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film is based on Roald Dahl’s short story from his 1977 collection of the same name. It’s Wes Anderson’s second film adaptation of Dahl’s work, after “Fantastic Mr. Fox” in 2009. The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Henry Sugar, with Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, Rupert Friend, and Richard Ayoade also in the cast.
Wes Anderson praises the cast of The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. “I hope you will like it, and I think you might. We loved making it, and I loved working with Benedict Cumberbatch and The Wonderful Ben Kingsley and Ralph Fiennes, our old friend who plays Roald Dahl himself in the story, and we have Dev Patel and Richard Ayoade, a very good cast we assembled for this little movie, and they’re all on strike at the moment, but otherwise they’d be here.”
In the Venice premiere, Anderson says Roald Dahl’s books shouldn’t be modified after the author’s death. Anderson was at the Venice Film Festival with another Dahl adaptation, ‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.’
According to Venice premiere reports, “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar perfectly captures the whimsical spirit of the short stories. The sets are meticulously crafted and dynamically choreographed, simulating a live theatrical performance starring some of the industry’s best talent. A true treat to watch.”
