‘What If…?‘ Season 2, Episode 7, titled ‘What If… Hela Found the Ten Rings?‘ is now available for streaming on Disney+. This episode is like the first Thor movie. It delves into Hela‘s backstory, showing how Odin‘s throne corrupted her. The opening scenes are unique, with fantastic animated visuals.
In Episode 7, King Odin initiated a campaign to unite the Nine Realms under the Throne of Asgard, using his chief weapons—the executioner and his firstborn daughter, Hela, the Goddess of Death. They systematically took control of all branches of the universe, but Hela’s ambitions extended beyond. She desired to rule the entire cosmos. Odin, refusing her wishes, stripped her of powers, including her crown and Mjolnir, casting her away to Earth. Odin embedded her voice into the crown, declaring that whoever wears it must understand mercy to possess the power of Hela.
On Earth, Hela was discovered by Xu Wenwu, the leader of the Ten Rings. Hela attempted to attack Wenwu and his army, but without her powers, she couldn’t effectively engage in combat. Eventually, Wenwu used his Rings to apprehend her and was impressed by Hela’s fighting prowess and rage. He proposed an alliance, but she rejected him by kicking him away. With the assistance of Morris, Hela managed to escape and reach Ta Lo. There, she encountered the guardian of Ta Lo, Ying Li, and the villagers.
While Heimdall couldn’t see Hela, he conveyed that information to Odin. Also, Odin discovered that the Ten Rings possessed the power to kill a god. Hela, now in Ta Lo, was mentored by Ying Li to embrace peace and fight for the greater good. As they began training, Odin unexpectedly appeared on Earth to claim the Ten Rings. Hela, unwilling to allow it, joined forces with Wenwu, and together they confronted Odin. Through her newfound commitment to good deeds, Hela successfully reclaimed her crown. She emerged victorious against Odin and formed a team dedicated to saving people from the oppression of malevolent forces. In the end, she and her team attempted to stop Thanos.
