New plot details for Disney and Pixar’s Elio have been revealed. The film’s plot centers on 11-year-old orphan Elio Solis, who is mistakenly identified by aliens as Earth’s leader.
What is the Plot of Elio?
Elio’s storyline centers on the titular 11-year-old orphan — newly adrift after the death of his parents — now living with his aunt — a kind but driven, overworked wannabe astronaut voiced by Zoe Saldaña. Lonely, friendless, and emotionally marooned, he’s developed a not-so-quiet conviction that somewhere out there, the universe is just waiting to deliver him into the kind of epic, star-straddling adventure that might finally make him feel seen.
Directed by Madeline Sharafian and Domee Shi, with initial direction by Adrian Molina. The film’s voice cast includes Yonas Kibreab as Elio Solis, Saldaña as Olga Solis, Remy Edgerly as Glordon, Brad Garrett as Lord Grigon, Jameela Jamil as Questa, and Shirley Henderson as OOOOO.
During CinemaCon 2025 (Via THR), Saldaña described the movie as a “heartfelt, funny, and beautiful story” that takes audiences on an emotional ride, following characters as they decide “who and where they’re meant to be.”
Elio will hit theaters in the United States on June 20, 2025, by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
