Marvel’s Armor Wars Series is now officially turning into a feature film. The Armor Wars series were first announced during SDCC 2022. Later, Marvel announced that the Armor Wars series would be converted into a film. In Marvel Comics’ Armor Wars plot, Tony Stark‘s technology and armor are stolen, and a group of villains designs the armor on their own.
Why Armor Wars Series Is Being Developed As A Film?
Armor Wars is “too big” & “cost prohibitive,” told Marvel Studios VP of Production & Development Nate Moore, who co-produced the films (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Eternals, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever). Speaking to a The Town with Matthew Belloni podcast, Moore told Armor Wars was initially planned as a Disney+ limited series, but it turns out a film due to the budget and Don Cheadle interacting with all these armors is defined as a legacy of Tony Stark, that became kind of cost prohibitive to do as a show.
“I mean in that case, there were some great ideas that were coming out for that show, but that, to be quite honest, felt too big for that show. […] Kind of conceptually, and from… You know, our Disney+ shows are awesome, and we love them, but the budgets are not the same as the features, that’s no secret.” he added, “And when you’re talking about a show that wants to be about seeing all the cool armors and, you know, Don Cheadle interacting with all these armors and sort of the legacy of Tony Stark, that became kind of cost prohibitive to do as a show. And we realized as a feature, not only can we get into some of the beautiful imagery that is from publishing, and there’s certainly an Armor Wars run, but also there are ways then to leverage the ideas of that movie and affect other movies down the line.”
The film stars Don Cheadle as James Rhodes/War Machine: An officer with the United States Air Force and liaison between the military in the Department of Acquisitions and best friend of Tony Stark and Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch. The script is penned by Yassir Lester, who previously worked with Cheadle in the Black Monday series. The plot details are kept secret.
‘Armor Wars’ will hit theaters in 2024.
